Sensitivity Statement
Hushed Harmony
Hushed Harmony explores both the light and dark sides of love, faith, and self-discovery. Within its pages are depictions of difficult themes, including religious trauma, homophobia, violence, and the complex journey of reclaiming one’s body and sexuality.
I’ve researched this book extensively and hope I’ve handled the difficult subject matter with care and respect, always in service of the characters’ journeys toward healing and wholeness.
In other words, these story elements are not included for shock value. They are woven carefully into the narrative to reflect the challenges the characters face and how surviving them shapes the choices they make.
Hushed Harmony follows three individuals who must confront painful pasts, deep personal struggles, and the courage it takes to love authentically. Themes include escaping fundamentalist religious environments, navigating sexual identity within families affected by addiction and homophobia, and confronting the fear of coming out to Catholic Irish family (which includes a brief scene of infidelity, but not between the main characters).
One of the character’s healing journey involves explicit depictions of sex therapy and surrogate partner therapy. The others confront physical violence and emotional abuse within religious contexts.
Through these struggles and the complications of polyamorous love, Liam, Linus and Avonna grow, heal, and redefine what family, trust, and intimacy mean to them individually and as part of a committed relationship.
If you have experienced religious trauma, family violence, or are sensitive to explicit sexual content, please take care of yourself as you decide whether this is the right book for you at this time.
With care and respect for your journey,
Kaylene Winter
